Lessons from the Darkness—Part 4—The Longest Darkness—Gratitude and Peace

By Carol Woolum Roberts

I am writing this on the shortest day of the year.

I am writing this on the longest night of the year.

I find that this day points me toward gratitude.

I find that this night points me toward peace.

Today I was grateful for the light of the day.

Tonight, I am grateful for the darkness that envelopes my home, and makes the Christmas lights on my tree, in my living room, and on the front of my house shine forth into the darkness.

Tonight, the light and warmth from the fire bring me peace.

I think about this verse, as we move toward the celebration of our Savior’s birth.

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.

Isiah 60:1

I am grateful that the darkness brings forth the light.

I am grateful that the baby born in a manger brings me peace.

Gratitude and Peace.

Two gifts I receive as the world shifts from days getting shorter to days getting longer.

On this cold, dark, winter night, I am aware of the calm and the bright.

Merry Christmas to one and all…for unto us a son is born, unto us a Son is given. The Prince of Peace.  Embrace the peace.
