A Retreat To Advance: What A Story

#growmeastory adult day retreats Jul 17, 2023

By Paul Roberts

Well, wasn’t that fun.

Actually, yes, it was quite enjoyable, at least from my perspective.

My schedule of late has felt a bit overwhelming. Between drivers ed, kids camps, Sixth Street stuff, church responsibilities, family in town, and 60th birthday parties, you may have noticed that Carol and I have been a bit behind on our Grow Me a Story posts, both blogs and podcasts. Mea culpa. We’ll get better.

Sunday evening, when Carol and I were finishing preparations for our adult storytelling retreat, I wasn’t quite sure if I was going to have the energy I felt like I needed for our six hour day in the backyard with eleven “campers.” But there is something about getting together with a group of people who all love telling stories (call them human beings, if you will) that adds some energy, pleasure, and perspective to my psyche.

Sorry if you were unable to attend. But the Creator had a pretty good idea who should be there, and we had a wonderful time sharing ideas and expanding our creative community. That is still one of my favorite things about this Grow Me A Story adventure: the experience of a community of like minded people gathering together with the goal of supporting each other’s creative endeavors. What a pleasure.

There are two Grow Me A Story adult retreats left this summer - art and poetry - and you can still join us for either one. Not into art? Not into poetry? What about a day filled with laughter, camaraderie, creativity, and friends, both old and new, young and old? Sound interesting? Good. See you in my backyard soon. After today, I’m recharged and ready.
