A Year in Review at Grow Me A Story

#growmeastory a year in review creativity creativity cultivating what's next..jumping off a cliff retreat Aug 10, 2022

By Carol Woolum Roberts

Paul and I began our “What’s Next…Jump Off a Cliff” retreat on Wednesday.  As I begin to write my blog post this morning, I am taking a break from the work we are doing.  We have already looked at what we talked about last year and kept or combined topics for this year.  Then we each looked at each topic that was written on a piece of cardstock.  Paul and I wrote down things we would like to discuss with each other about each of the topics.  We are on a break until after lunch, when we will randomly pick one of the topics, and talk about it, and how we will deal with it this next year.

But part of this retreat is not only looking ahead, but looking at where we have come from this past year.  We are especially looking at our Grow Me A Story business.

Here are some of the things we have accomplished through Grow Me A Story.

  • Officially became an LLC in September 2021
  • Launched our Fertile Ground blog in November 10th, 2021 with Paul's blog post titled “Come Take A Walk on the Creative Side”. You can find his original post here.  Since that original post, every Tuesday Paul has posted an original blog post, and I have posted one every Thursday, focusing on the different ways we are living a creative life, and encouraging others to live a creative life as well.
  • I worked on our website design throughout November and December, and it was ready to go in December. You can find our website at growmeastory.com
  • We started an email subscriber list last fall, and currently mail out a weekly newsletter on Saturday mornings titled “Weekly Waterings” on Saturday morning and a link to our blogposts on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We have over 200 email subscribers.  If you would like to join our email list, you can fill out a form here.
  • We launched our first paid membership community in December, with 13 people joining our Sacred Community Garden. This is an online creative community that we work with to help them in their creativity through one-on-one creativity sessions, group Zoom chats, online discussions of the book “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron, creativity prompts, to name a few of the perks.  If you would like to know more about joining our Sacred Community Garden for the year, click here.
  • In January we launched our first episodes of our Dreams and Bones podcast. Since then we have interviewed eight different people, as well as broadcasting an episode with Paul and I sharing, and an episode interviewing our three daughters.  It has been so interesting learning more about some local creative people we know.  Click here to listen to our podcast.
  • This summer we hosted two Grow Your Creativity Camps for kids, and two day retreats for adults.

Now we are asking ourselves, what is next for Grow Me a Story?  We have a lot of ideas to mull over and look forward to starting year two to help others cultivate the creativity in their lives.
