Community Helps Me Connect With The Creator

community creative tribe creator connection Aug 03, 2022

By Carol Woolum Roberts

In Julia Cameron’s book “The Artist’s Way”, she writes the following:

Remember that creativity is a tribal experience and that tribal elders will initiate the gifted youngsters who cross their path.  This may sound like wishful thinking, but it is not.  Sometimes an older artist will be moved to help out even against his or her own wishes.  “I don’t know why I’m doing this for you, but…”  Again, I would say that some of the helping hands may be something more than human.

Throughout the month of July, Paul and I had the experience repeatedly of being the “tribal elders” to a variety of different groups to help them in their creative experiences.  We helped 12 different kids develop their creativity throughout the Grow Your Creativity Camps.  We help eight different women expand their creativity through our Creating Quiet Day Retreat, and the Creating Stories Day Retreat. We also enjoy our engagement with members of our Sacred Community Garden.. These are also great times of sharing creativity with one another. We were also on the receiving end through members of our writing group, and other creative groups we belong to and attend throughout the month.

This month we have been used to help all the different people we encountered over the month to expand their creativity.  What a joy to be used in this way.

I hope this is only the beginning.  From the people we worked with this past month, it seems as if there is an interest us offering more ways to encourage others in their creativity.

Here is to making more connections with The Creator, God, to others in my community, and helping get those creations out into the world to share with others.
