I Remember Mama at Christmas

Last week I had some friends over for a Christmas Tea.  One of the activities I had them do was walk around my house and look at all the Christmas decorations and have them write down different memories they remember that were sparked by my decorations.

Then we all sat around the table and shared our different memories.  Most of these memories that each of us shared had to do with our mothers.

My mom was the role model I have as I decorate for Christmas and make Christmas goodies and create a Christmas atmosphere.

As I walk around my decorated home, I see the cornucopia with glass-colored ornaments spilling from the inside.  Under the cornucopia are green boughs and colored lights.  Mom had this in our living room every year.

She also loved decorating the mirror in her living room with live boughs surrounding it.  She would also display the Christmas cards she received.  Mom was an avid Christmas card sender, and I follow in her footsteps as well.

Decorating our family Christmas tree growing up was a walk down memory lane.  Many of the ornaments had a story to go along with it.

This green wooden tree with red candles was often on one of the end tables.

Each year the ceramic nativity scene would go up.  I always loved that nativity sent, and one year Mom and Dad sent me one while we lived in Meridian.  At Thanksgiving, my daughter Zoe took Mom’s nativity scene to her house to set up for the Christmas season.

Growing up we opened one or two presents on Christmas Eve, then waited until Christmas morning to open stockings and the rest of the presents.  That tradition continues with our family.
