Sunflowers Look For The Light

If you haven’t realized this by now, Sunflowers are a favorite flower of mine.

One of the things I like about this flower is how happy it looks.  Sunflowers look like they are smiling.

Sunflowers are all around my gardens in these last days of summer. Some I planted last spring in pots inside and planted the seedlings in the garden.  Others were planted by seed in the ground.  A few in the front yard came up volunteer.

I love the different varieties of sunflowers I planted.

There are the large Mammoth sunflowers.

There are a variety of different shapes, sizes and colors.

If you ever watch a sunflower during the day, it looks for the light.

The head of the sunflower is often facing the sun.  It turns with it throughout the day.

What a great reminder to us.  We should be looking for the light and following it each and every day.

One of the first things The Creator did was separate light and darkness.

And it was good.

The scriptures tell me "Jesus is the Light of the World".

Overall, I think we all like light. Light helps our mood.  Light helps us find the right path.  Sunlight provides warmth.

I cannot imagine walking into a room of sunflowers and feeling grumpy.  Those happy flowers would lighten my mood.

There are a lot of memes shared about sunflowers, but this is one of my favorites:

The morning glories and the sunflowers turn naturally toward the light, but we have to be taught, it seems.

~ Richard Rohr

I encourage you, as the days begin to get shorter, the weather a bit grayer, to be like the sunflower and the morning glories and look for the light.

It might be just what you need to help you make it through the day.
